How to edit PDF metadata
- Add a PDF. Its current properties fill the form.
- Edit any field; leave a field empty to remove it.
- Select Save changes to download
name-edited.pdf, or Strip all metadata forname-stripped.pdf.
The fields
- Title, author, subject, keywords
- Shown in document properties and used by search tools. Many readers show the title instead of the file name.
- Creator and producer
- The app that made the original and the software that wrote the PDF. They often reveal what you used.
- Created and modified
- Dates in your local time zone.
- XMP metadata
- A second, XML copy of the details that some readers prefer. It is removed by default when you edit, so old values don’t reappear.
Strip all metadata removes the document properties, XMP packets (including those on pages and images), private application data and the file identifier. Page content is untouched.
Questions
Is the PDF otherwise changed?
No. Pages, fonts and images are written back as they were; only the properties you edit change.
Does stripping make a PDF anonymous?
It removes the stored properties, but names printed on the pages, comment authors and form contents stay. Check the content too.
